Makeovers

So, its been like 3 months and I haven't posted anything. Sorry.

However I'm posting this because I saw this redo and loved it, so I just had to try it. I found this lamp at the York Salvation Army last Saturday. It was $3.99, however it was their anniversary, so it was half off. No shade, but Score! I tried it when home and it worked, it still looked safe, so I decided not to spend money to re-wire it. I picked up Rustoleum 'Heirloom White' paint with a gift card at Home Depot, so free! I don't have any pics of the actual painting, but I unscrewed the bottom and spread out the pieces while still attached to the cord. Then let it dry.

Here's a really large version of the finished piece!

For the shade, I really didn't have a clear idea of what shape I wanted. I knew that I could always pick up a new one for under $10. On monday I found a shade at another thrift store that I thought would work, it was only $3 so home it went. After trying it out on the newly painted lamp, it didn't look right. The color was too dark. It was a spanish moss color, more brown than green, and it was too short. Then today I was at the Goodwill store and found the shade you see. It was very dirty, but no tears, and at $3 it was a steal. So when home, I took a dry paper towel to it and got the most off, but in the next few days it will get a more deep clean. Once the shade was on I almost jumped like a little school girl. I loved how it turned out the shade is the perfect size and color. I was going to give it as a gift, but I might just keep it for myself.

Here's a price breakdown:
Lamp: $2
Paint: Free with gift card
Shade: $3
_____________
Total: $5

Next are frames I did back in March after seeing so many blog posts about spraypainting. I love this fresh lime color, I have mostly jewel colors in my living room, so these really popped. Now I need to find summer scenes to put in them.

p.s. This illustration is from the Library of Congress Website. The best place for free art!
The bottom frame also shows a mat from Pottery Barn Kids, but you could easily use scrapbooking paper. The illustration is from another free clipart site, don't remember now, if you would like to know, leave a comment and I'll find it.
